Using Art as an Engine for Community Involvement and Social Change

The Glass Ribbon Project

Help a Stranger, Help a Friend.
From the Kitchen Table to the Community!

This special project from The Gary Rosenthal Collection’s Art as a Catalyst program brings together people affected by breast cancer in a truly unique public awareness and fundraising effort.

Participants will work together to make mosaic sheets of pink glass. The glass will be fused at The Gary Rosenthal Collection studio in Maryland and then cut into beautiful strength stones (pieces meant to be held while undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatment), giving those who have been touched by breast cancer a way to share their strength and give hope to others. Each glass mosaic makes four strength stones: one for the purchasing artist, one for a friend, one for a stranger and one to be placed onto a community glass ribbon which will be exhibited. A portion of the proceeds from every sale will benefit breast cancer research.
